Amitabh Chaudhary, the president of the Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) and a former acting secretary of the BCCI, died on Tuesday morning from a heart attack. He was 58. The last IGP was a senior IPS official who had served with the Jharkhand Police and retired. He was also the Jharkhand Public Service Commission’s chairman (JPSC).
“When I heard about the untimely passing of Shri Amitabh Chaudhary, the former JPSC chairman, I was astounded. Jharkhand’s chief minister tweeted.
Chaudhary during the early years of the new century, when the BCCI abolished the Bihar Cricket Association under the direction of the late Jagmohan Dalmiya, an IIT Kharagpur alumnus was instrumental in ensuring Jharkhand’s first-class status.
After Jharkhand was granted official FC status, Mahendra Singh Dhoni relocated from Bihar and played for the state until the end of his career.
By contributing to the construction of one of Ranchi’s top cricket stadiums, Chaudhary deserves praise for his role in bringing international cricket and the IPL to the city.
He had furthermore served as the BCCI’s joint secretary and the Indian team’s administrative manager on a few times.
