Asian Games 2022 Schedule: The Asian Games scheduled to take place in Hangzhou, China, from September 10 to 22. However, due of the Covid-19 pandemic, the organizers have decided to postpone the continental games until 2023.
Asian Games Postponed Until 2023 due to Surge of Covid in China
The decision made as China battles a recurrence of Covid-19 infections, which originally announced by Chinese state media. Shanghai, the country’s financial capital, been close for a month, while Beijing has imposed more restrictions, giving it an advantage.
The announcement comes after China successfully hosted the Winter Olympics in Beijing earlier this year. The Games held behind closed doors in February 2022, with rigorous Covid-19 protocols in place.
Last month, India’s Sports Minister Anurag Thakur said that a decision on India’s participation in the Asian Games is made based on China’s assessment of the situation and readiness to host the continental event in the face of the mounting cases. Asian Games 2022 Schedule

“All other participating nations are debating, and India will make a choice at some point,” Thakur said. “But before that, the host nation should make it obvious what they are thinking and how prepared they are.”
The Asian Games are the most recent major sporting event to be delayed or canceled as a result of the Covid-19 controversy. The Olympic Games, the world’s largest sports event, postponed until 2021 because to the pandemic in 2020. Even though a segment of the Japanese people opposed to the country hosting the worldwide sporting event, the Summer Games went on.
The Olympic Games in Tokyo carried on as planned, with athletes from all around the world experiencing the new normal as they deal with the pressures of the Games.
The Asian Games held in Jakarta and Palembang this year. With 69 medals, including 15 gold medals, India placed eighth in the medal table. In the absence of the Asian Games this year, India’s finest athletes will focus on the Commonwealth Games. Birmingham will host the CWG from July 28 to August 8.
