Although Grenada’s Anderson Peters outdid Neeraj’s throw with his 89.91m effort later in the day when the competitors in Group B battled it out, Neeraj’s throw won Group A.
Only two athletes, including Peters and Chopra, received direct qualification; the remaining eight qualified by placing among the top 12 athletes in the qualifying round.
Two more competitors passed the 83.50-meter mark: Jakub Vadlejch, who earned silver at the Tokyo Olympics with an effort of 85.23 meters, and Julian Weber, who threw an effort of 87.58 meters.
