Sunil Gavaskar Highlights Causes of Star’s Inconsistency in “What Has Led Sanju Samson Down”
India’s team for the two-game T20I series against Ireland, which starts on June 26, includes Sanju Samson.
Sanju Samson now has a second chance to solidify his position in the Indian cricket team. He will play in two Twenty20 Internationals against Ireland later this month for the Hardik Pandya-led India team. It will be difficult for Samson to reach the T20 World Cup roster because several other wicketkeeper-batters, such as Rishabh Pant, Ishan Kishan, and the seasoned Dinesh Karthik, are performing well with considerably more consistency than the 27-year-old. Samson has consistently dazzled with his talent but fallen short with consistency.
Samson has played for India in 1 ODI and 13 T20Is, totaling 46 and 174 runs, respectively. Sunil Gavaskar, a former captain of the Indian cricket team, believes Samson has talent but has to work on his shot selection.
“Everyone deserves more opportunities, but you have to take advantage of them. Because we are all aware of Sanju Samson’s extraordinary talent, his shot selection while representing India is what has brought him down. In the fifth T20I between India and South Africa on Sunday, which was called off, Sunil Gavaskar remarked, “He looks to attack from the first ball, and even in T20Is, there is an opportunity to get your feet going, establish your eye…you know with the light and pitch, etc.
“So, yeah, he will be a lot more consistent whether he plays for India or for his franchise if his shot selection improves. After that, nobody will inquire about his position on the squad.
On June 26 and 28, Team India will compete in two T20Is in Dublin.
